Listening to video 2/26, Pastor William (PW, the speaker) explores the familiar account between the rich young ruler and the Lord Yahusha.

PW draws attention to verse Mat19:21 where the Lord asked the young ruler to follow Him as indicative of an offer of discipleship (Luke9:23, Mat8:22, Mat9:9).

This view is not only supported by the other scriptures that show a correlation between the call to follow the Lord and the discipleship offer, but the word, “perfect” in Mat19:21 also supports the offer of discipleship.

Let’s examine Mat19:21 –

“Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.”

Recall that this requirement to be perfect has been commonly interpreted as perfectly sinless as a requirement to gain eternal life,  the young ruler’s question posed in Mat19:16 –

“And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?”

But the BLB Greek Lexicon of this word reveals it means full grown, of mind and character, one who has reached the proper height of virtue and integrity!

These qualities are what would make a successful disciple!
